Geography

At Stowting Church of England Primary School, we believe that a high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.  Children will develop a sense of place and become invested in the pivotal geographical challenges facing our world today, Geography provides a key context in which to involve pupils with environmental sustainability and help them to grow up as responsible citizens. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. From the early years, students are introduced to the wonders of the natural world, beginning with their own community and gradually expanding to explore countries, cultures, and environments across the globe. Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and interactive projects, children learn about diverse ecosystems, the impact of human activity on the environment, and the importance of sustainable living. Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the framework and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
